Who's Who

Canon Mark Standen (Rector)

I’m married to Susan, and we have two children, Lucy and William, who both attend secondary school in Worthing.

Before ordination, I was a barrister specialising in family law, but decided I would prefer to spend my time helping people to find life through Jesus rather than pursuing a legal career. Fortunately, the Church of England agreed and I was ordained in 1995, serving initially in Sevenoaks and then, since 1999, in Angmering where I have been very happy.

I enjoy spending my time with family and friends, and love the country of France, where we are lucky enough to have our family holidays. I enjoy visits to the gym, except after family holidays!!

Revd Brendan Martin (Curate)

Having previously worked as a Blacksmith, I felt God leading me to church ministry and for a number of years worked as Youth Minister at Maresfield and Nutley churches in Sussex, before theological training and ordination.  I love Jesus, and I have a passion to see people come to know and love him too.

I am married to Claire and we have three children, Troy, Malachi and Annabelle.  We enjoy gardening, walking, going to coffee shops and playing card games.

Ben Martin (Youth Worker)

After being raised in Guernsey, I attended Exeter University where I studied  Sport & Exercise Science.  Being a good Sport Science student, I decided to take the most logical path and work for a Church in Exeter.

Afterwards, I moved to Sussex to work for UCCF: The Christian Unions as a Staff Worker where I helped University CU’s across Sussex. During this time I married my beautiful wife, Morag (Mog), who is a local primary school teacher. We have a young son called William.

Outside of that I enjoy playing any and all sports and spending many a holiday back on my home island of Guernsey.

Barbara Roberts (Women’s Ministry Worker)

I was born and grew up in Southport, Lancashire where I met and married John over 45 years ago.

After training and working as a radiographer we had four children who now have nine children between them.

As well as doing a creative arts degree at MMU in my forties, I did a Cornhill Bible Training course for two years in Sheffield.  I organised the pastoral work, ran a mums and tots group and young mum’s Bible study in my last church in Cheshire and feel excited and challenged to take up this new role of women’s ministry at St. Margaret’s.

Chris Harris (Office Manager)

Guernseyman by birth, I crossed the Channel moved to this side of the water in 1981 to go to Moorlands Bible College, where I studied for 3 years. I’m married to Deni and we have two sons.

We moved to West Sussex in 1997 having lived in Bournemouth for 14 years.

We head up the team that leads the monthly all age praise parties known as “Wake Up Shake Up”.

I’m employed as the Office Manager at St Margaret’s and when I’m not in the Office I enjoy watching sport especially the Green Lions, Guernsey FC; involved in a local am-dram society and I also describe myself as an aviation enthusiast. Some would say “anorak!”

Sara Spencer (Parish Secretary)

I am married to Eric and we have two lovely sons, Ed and Tim.  I have lived in the Littlehampton / Rustington area since my school days.  Eric brought me along to St Margaret’s in 1987 and we are all blessed to be part of this loving church family.

I attended secretarial college many years ago, but have spent the last few years working in various shops in Rustington.  In January 2012 I was delighted to become the Parish Secretary at St Margaret’s. In my spare time I enjoy singing, reading and baking cakes!

Neil Giles (Churchwarden)

I have lived in Angmering since 2004 and attended SMCC before coming to the Parish Church at St Margarets where my wife began her Ministry training. I Chair the Finance Group for the Parish and I took up the role of ChurchWarden in April 2014. I am a strong believer in social action and devote time, prayer and thought to reaching out to our community.

Christine Peskett (Churchwarden)

I have lived most of my life locally, starting off with Littlehampton, then Angmering, Poling, East Preston and now Rustington. I am a very proud mother of Stewart & Nicola, who have given me four wonderful grandchildren.

I enjoy the theatre, cinema, eating out, reading, crossword puzzles and Sudoku. It is such a pleasure to be part of St Margaret’s Church.
